liberty practice

Dear diary and others,   I had a go at some of the tasks for the liberty today. We are working up to liberty so I still had the 12ft line on and pretended it was not there. Hmmmm Im going to need the whole month and may be and some for this one. As always Im happy with his backing but everything else needs finessing.

new goals and insights

Dear diary and others,   I have been thinking about progress. How quickly it should be done. What to look for and how precise or close enough a particular exercise should be. The big picture of where I would like to be or be going. To look at body parts and how well they are being used for the age and the stage / level of training we the trainer, or the horse is at. Focusing on being particular but not critical.   Since starting the QS program I have going t

Being my own coach

Dear Diary and others,   I had a critical eye over my assignment this morning. There are a few inaccuracies I have done in the assignment but over all Iggy was able to do each part of the exercises. I have written a detailed list of good and bad things I can see in the video. One point in particular was that I did not ride in "a wind in the breeze rein" as I did not read the assignment before I start the video and I just assumed the trot work and walk in the square would be on

Monday a new week

Dear Diary and others,   Its Monday and that means a new start to a new week. No riding was done on the weekend due to it being mothers day. Last week I thought that Im ready to do an assignment. I set up the gear to video then did a little warm up to begin. Possible not a great plan to start a video at the start of the week and first ride for the week also. Possibly it would be better to do the video mid week or at the end of the week. Any way I'm keen to get started.

eclo park

Dear diary and others, I met up with my Friday social riding group, a non horsemanship, group on Friday at Elco Park. I did some random exercise form the program then went out for a trail riding at walk around the grounds. I feel a video is in the making.

Ware and tear

Dear Diary and others,   I have been doing quite a bit of manual labour at home and I have aggravated my shoulder injury, a rotated cuff. It is just ware and tear of my joints and muscles. Im off to the masseur tomorrow and hope that she can help.   Unfortunately I did not check my phone this morning that reminds me of engagements. As I managed to double book myself. I received a concerned message from Sue Wright asking if things were OK. OPPS, I misse

good boy

Dear Diary and others, I have just stepped off Iggy, he had been SUCH a good boy. We were working on rebounds today and the power that I was getting was an amazing feeling. The sitting on his hind quarters waiting / hesitating then the push of that was so deliberate and controlled into a trot that was soft and forward. He was listening to my seat. Iggy was ratting my seat so well from the trot to rebound that I did not have to use my reins to stop at all, then rein back and im

a short practice

Dear Diary and others, I only had a short window of time to practice with Iggy today. We did some ground work, step overs at very close range with my hand at the snap. I was at such a close range so I could give an unmistakeable direction of left and right so that Iggy could use the correct leg to move off.

another satisfying practice day

Dear Diary and others, I met up with some horsemanship friends at Elco park. We did not realise it was pony club day today. The girls and myself had a chat of our plans for that morning then got out there and start to our practice. We did very little and shortly after a pony club person asked us to leave the arena for no other reason that it was pony club day and they have the rights to the whole grounds. It was not stated that on the friends of Elco page which stated that th

could not be happier

Dear diary and others,   I could not be happier with Iggy's progress in a week. Iggy is getting lighter / softer by the day. "Say what you mean, mean what you say," has been my moto this week. Of cause with feel, timing and respect with and for my horse. Im feeling really good about myself, a nice feeling to have after years of not feeling very good about myself, full of self doubt and depression. LOL and not a start fish in sight when doing the send.

happy with today

Dear Diary and others,   The weather was just perfect, nothing could go wrong on a day like today. No wind, clouds were few and just a little warmth coming from the sun. A typical Autumn day. I had a great mind set and that flowed through to my training with Iggy. I had a really enjoyable time with my boy. I was happy with Iggy's progress from earlier in the week with his sideways. He had such a good work ethic today. He was doing sideways in a straight line with no laging o

an improvement

Dear Diary and others,   Yesterday I had a few thing to do in the morning that kept me occupied till lunch time. After lunch I thought I would go out and do some practice with Iggy's sideways. The sky did look a bit ominous with a purple hue but I though whats the worst thing that is going to happen, i'll get wet. So I saddled up. Then all of a sudden the rain came down hard with hail. My saddle was very wet I tried to wipe it down to no avail. I thought the only way to stop i

Level 2 with Bailey

My plan to finish L2 with Bailey - thanks Mel for your input scary as it is now April is over May means working on Cherokee & snaffle bits and helping Bailey find comfort with these in his mouth - card 7 riding in the bridle - card 9 the impulsion program - all of it, not just bits - so a good look and do of card 8, including canter PL footfalls in card 10 and being confident to ask with an exaggerated body position for the canter leads Sub/resub A8 - simple lead changes

catch up practice afternoon with Deb

Dear Diary and others, I text Deb confirming our practice catch up last night. We both met up at the Drysdale reserver in the afternoon. I had sore hips from working at home so I thought that I would do ground work and get our laging hind quarter better. We did an obstacle walk to start, going over bridges, jumps and going through water holes. I did not give our practice 100% of my time and energy because I was uncomfortable with my hips. So I thought I would just get some qua

Practice run through at Drysdale riding grounds

Dear diary and others, It feels like winter is here. I pulled out my snow gear and off I went to have a practice day in Drysdale. I was lucky there was not to much rain just a very light shower here and there. I did 2 rein riding today and ran through the activities in random order from assignment 10. I am happy with how it is coming along. We have a little lag of the hind 1/4s in the sideways. The back up is good along with our rebounds at walk and trot. I like our forward rid

Dear Human Mind

Our Quantum Savvy journey is so much more than learning horsemanship skills... if I allow my horse to push on my personal space, do I allow people in general to push my personal space. Oh Human Mind, we tried to deny the truth as I truly couldn't be this way. Thank you QS as not only am I learning to be a better horseman, I am also learning to be a better me

squeezed in a practice

Dear Diary and others, I have a lot of jobs to do around my house. The other day we had a storm that blew down 5 of my beautiful gums that were 50 years old. I had to get an arbortrist to chop the trees up and mulch the smaller limbs. I have 12 cubic meters of mulch to spread over the garden then stack all those cut up limbs form the trees. Many hours of work there.   In between my work I did get some practice today, I am making practice a priority even if

come and try day @ little river

Dear Diary, Jen Renouf put on a come and try day at Little River today. She put out a few obstacles with tasks written for each level. We could do the obstacles or practice our home work cards. I decided to practiced a few home work tasks. The H.I.M first assignment, sideways along the fence and change of directions.   The H.I.M went ok considering it was the first time I had a go of it. I need to work on having more slack in the line, at the moment there wa

Still going

Dear Diary and others, I know many of you are thinking you have got to be joking, you must be doing something wrong. Surely your videos are ready. NOPE. They are still being up loaded to the cloud, that is how slow my internet connection is. May be tomorrow. Fingers crossed

ridden practice

Dear Diary and others, I rode today. I have been doing so much ground work it feels like quite some time since I have sat in the saddle. I have a wide horse and although he dose not look that large I can tell you that I felt it in my hip joints. I must put a little note on the fridge to remind me to do some hip flexor exercise so I can loosen up. I met up with a non QS friend but she also does horsemanship (Clinton Anderson method ). She tells me she is going
