Group Organiser - Anne Fraser
Location - Houston, Scotland / UK
Group Formed - April 2007

Hi…I’m Annie…Group Organiser for the Meadow Park PG in Houston Scotland (near Glasgow). We started Meadow Park Practise Group at the end of April 2007. The name comes from the yard we are all at. We have an outdoor school where we have our practise. We had a few gatherings in the beginning to get started so people got the idea of the lessons. Now we aim for once a month, usually a Sunday evening.

We have an RFT clinic coming up very soon with Shane and Meredith. The clinic is the big event of the year for our yard…. nothing like this has ever happened here before. Everything has happened very quickly, it some- times feels like things are going at 100 mile an hour and it is very exciting. It really does motivate you to get on with things with an event to look forward to.

MeadowParkPractiseGroup1All the people in the group are working on level 1 like me. I am a few lessons ahead, so I can do my best to guide them through the "hiccups". A few of us have already started to send in assignments though so we are pretty keen and it won’t be long before we have some level one graduates in our group. One of the girls has done a bit of natural horsemanship before with one of her horses, so she has been a great help too. She too wants to go through the levels and get assignments in.

I decided to become a GO when I was looking for answers on the forum and others started to suggest I become one when others at my yard started asking what I was doing. I thought it might also give me more confidence in what I was doing with my horse (Matilda). I must say it certainly has.MeadowParkPractiseGroup2

Then I decided to arrange to have an RFT clinic (which we are very excited about) to get us on the right road and also to encourage us to come out our comfort zones, show us what can be achieved. One horse in particular - "Magic" (he looks a bit like Dirk) has shown such progress Jo, his owner, has now started getting him out trying Le Trek, hacking etc.

There are between 2 to 6 people in the group that come to play days, depending on peoples shifts at work. It is a good feeling when some would say "my horse won’t do that" or "my horse is scared of that" then 5 mins later "ta-dah!" they have done it.! We set small, realistic goals for the day. Also there was no natural horsemanship lessons available for 100 miles. That’s how far I had to travel for my first Western Riding Lesson. I was so inspired by these horses willingness to please.

MeadowParkPractiseGroup3I have also had my first enquiry to have a practise at another yard, so things look good for our area.

Knowledge is a powerful tool. When we take the time to learn, magic happens!

We are very proud of our fabulous Practice Groups at Quantum Savvy. They have such a huge desire for learning to become better communicators with their horses and helping further that learning in a group setting with other people and their horses. Each month, one practice group is interviewed and featured on the website.
