The Lockyer Riders formed in July 2006 via the Forum. I was living in Canberra at the time, but was to move to the Lockyer Valley, Qld toward the end of the year. I found out there were two QS members in the same area, so we got together via the fantastic Quantum Savvy Forum and formed the Lockyer Riders.
We first met when I attended the GO conference at the QSSC in July 2006. Vicki Marr from the Bellarine Brumbies and I drove to Hatton Vale in the Lockyer Valley and met Mel, her family and Zoe. They went out of their way to make us welcome.

Shortly after I moved to the Lockyer Valley in Oct 2006 we organized a video morning (well it was supposed to be a horsey play day but it rained) and had our first horsey play day January 07 at Mel’s place. It was a great day and some of the horses and riders discovered and gained unknown confidence as well as being inspired by each others successes.Mel and her family have proven to be very enthusiastic about Quantum Savvy and have built a beautiful 20x40m arena with 5 8x8m day yards attached to it.
Last year we hosted our first RFT clinic with Shane and Meredith at Walloon, which was really well attended with everyone going away having learnt and grown so much. We also hosted a colt starting week with Shane which was held at Mel’s arena plus we had a colt starting demo with Shane at the Gatton Indoor arena. It was a fantastic night with lots of people coming from all over to see Shane in action.
Aside from our regular group members we also have a few new people who come along and join in on our Play-Days. Right now we are all working on our Level 1 Homework cards and we have one level one graduate, but as we have several group members who have been submitting assignments for a while we hope that soon we will have some more level one graduates amongst our midst.
We have play days once a month, throughout the year with some special events lined up down the track. Coming up soon we are hosting another RFT clinic with Shane and Meredith, this time ay Boonah, then the Worlds Biggest Play Day in March, a Christmas in July Weekend and hopefully another clinic later this year or early next year. A trip to visit Alpha Circle Practice Group and the chance to have a swim at the beach is also in our plans. Wow…what a great year lies ahead of us… we sure are living our dreams.
Practice Groups are a great way to practice your skills with like minded others and really helps you stay moti- vated and tick off those homework cards. We are looking forward to seeing you at our Play Days, living your dreams!We are very proud of our fabulous Practice Groups at Quantum Savvy. They have such a huge desire for learning to become better communicators with their horses and helping further that learning in a group setting with other people and their horses. Each month, one practice group is interviewed and featured on the website.
